Figueres is the last important town in Catalonia before reaching the French border. It’s know for being Salvador Dalí’s hometown, where he created his main museum.

Distance from Barcelona: 2h drive. Possibility of taking the train.

WHAT CAN WE DO IN FIGUERES:

  • Dalí Theater Museum. Inside visit. 2h will feel like one minute inside this great place that looks more like a fun-fair than a museum! Dalí himself designed it, and made of it what’s said to be the largest “surrealist work” in the world. We’ll enjoy some of his masterpieces such as the famous Basket of Bread, but also other less famous yet outstanding paintings: I assure you that your opinion on Dalí will totally change after this visit, as we discover the genious behind the fool! OPEN: Mon-Sun (June to September), Tue-Sun (October to May)

  • Sant Ferran Castle. Military fortress where Dalí did his military service. Inside visit (1h), possibility of an adventure visit including a raft sail inside the underground water tanks and range-rover rides (2h, subject to availability). OPEN: Everyday.
  • Museum of the Toys of Catalunya. Small but fun museum with toys from all times. Inside visit (45min). OPEN: Mon-Sun (June to September), Tue-Sun (October to May)

(6h DAYTRIPS (IVORY FEES): Only recomended if you have a strong interest in ONE of the local sites (Dalí Museum or St. Ferran Castle) and have very little time available.
