From old historical gardens to top-notch design parks, Barcelona has a superb collection of green areas. Let’s discover them together! Choose your favorite to create your custom garden tour, or mix them with your favorite tourist sites!

  • Diagonal Mar Park. When the far end of the city was finally developped in 2004 with the excuse of organizing a big international event, the Forum of Cultures, one of the needs was providing this new neighbourhood with a high quality green space. Architects E. Miralles & Benedetta Tagliabue where in charge of designing it, and they took into account the local’s needs and suggestions. Suggested visit: 30min.
  • Parc Central del Poblenou. Nearby, the working clas quarter of Poblenou was also going through a process of transformation and they also reivindicated more nature. This time it was French Jean Nouvel who created a quiet garden that surprises you at every corner. Soustainability solutions where mixed with creative shapes that invite you to dream and relax. Suggested visit: 30min.
  • Park Güell. The most famous park in Barcelona was never concieved to be a “park”, but a housing developpment in the style of the British Garden Cities. The project, masterpiece of Antoni Gaudí, Was a failure, and with the years it became property of the City Council. Here Gaudí aimed at mixing nature and architecture and was appear near in sustainability concepts. Suggested visit:1h or more.
  • Ciutadella Park . In 1888 Barcelona celebrated the first International Exhibition, and the premises of the former Citadel of the city where used to host the pavilions. The enclosure was embellished with waterfalls, promenades, sculptures, gardens and even a lake. Many bushes and trees brought by exotic countries were used later on to create the botanical collection of the Park. Suggested visit: 45min.
  • Botanical Garden of Montjuïc. The new urban planning of the Hill of Montjuïc for the Olympics in 1992 affected the old botanical garden of Barcelona, and a new one was built near the Olympic facilities. The venue, which has received many design prices, is focused on the Mediterranean spices: not just those from all around the Mediterranean sea, but also other from areas that share similar weather characteristics such as California, Australia, Chile and South Africa.Suggested visit: 1h30min.
  • Park of the Labyrinth. The nobleman that owned this real state in the area of Horta, transformed his garden into and allegory of Love. The cypress tree maze was its main feature, but he also created a water reservoir, a water channel, and decorated a shady part of the valley with all kind of romantic elements. Suggested visit 1h.
  • Montjuïc Gardens. The Hill of Montjuïc is one of the city’s green lungs. The first gardens were created for the second World Fair in 1929, and new spaces have been opened since. Apart from smaller delicious parks such as the Laribal & Fountain of the Cat gardens or the ones at the Greek Theater, two of them outstand from the others: the cacti garden Mossèn Costa i Llovera, and the bulb garden Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer. The visit of each park will last between 20 to 45 min.
  • Uptown parks. Many private gardens own by the local bourgeoisie have been bought by the City Council and opened to the public. They constitute elegant green spaces that now are part of the neighbors daily life. We can also visit the gardens of the Royal Palace, and the Cervantes rose garden with varieties that keep the park in constant blooming all year around. The visit of each park will last between 20 to 45 min.
